Byron Run Club’s Nate Thornbury Takes on 160km Challenge to Support Women in Crisis
big byron run
Byron Run Club founder Nate Thornbury is taking on an epic challenge, aiming to run 160 kilometres in under 18 hours to raise funds and awareness for Fletcher Street Cottege’s Women’s Emergency Relief Program, designed to provide immediate support for women facing domestic violence and homelessness.
The one-day marathon will take place on Saturday 5th October around Byron’s Town Centre. While Nate is training hard, the community can get on board by sponsoring the Big Byron Run. Whether it’s a little or a lot, every bit will help Nate to reach his target.
Nate’s challenge aims to raise $5,000 to help support vulnerable women in crisis, offering them access to essential services through the Women’s Emergency Relief Program at Fletcher Street Cottage.
Nate Thornbury, founder of Byron Run Club, says:
I will be running in a show of support for what Fletcher Street Cottage does for our local community. I will be running 40 four-kilometre loops around Byron Bay in an attempt to raise awareness for what they are doing in our community to support their Women’s Emergency Relief Fund. Victims of domestic violence have been grossly overlooked and under represented in modern day awareness and protective efforts. The only way I feel we can help is by shining a light on the sad situation, raising awareness and taking a public stand. To help promote protection and preventative efforts.
How to Get Involved
Community members are encouraged to participate by running alongside Nate for part of the journey or by cheering him on as he pushes through this remarkable challenge. Whether you run, donate or spread the word, your contribution will make a meaningful impact.
Kate Love, Communications Manager at Byron Community Centre, says:
The support Nate is providing through this run is incredible. His effort reflects the true spirit of our community – rallying together to support women when they need it the most.
Byron Run Club Raffle
As part of the fundraising efforts, Byron Run Club will also be hosting a raffle on October 5th to raise additional funds. Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to contribute to the prize pool.
Afterparty at Byron Community Centre
To cap off the day, an afterparty will be held upstairs at the Byron Community Centre from 4pm to 9pm. This will feature pizza, drinks and exciting raffle prizes. It will celebrate Nate’s achievement and the collective efforts of the Byron community in supporting women in need.
“I’m incredibly proud of the steps that Fletcher Street Cottage has taken, to help women in our community,” adds Nate. “Hopefully the Big Byron Run will gain some attention and get people willing to support Fletcher Street Cottage and the women we should all be doing more for.”
Help us spread the word and join Nate as he tackles this physically demanding challenge to raise funds for Fletcher Street Cottage. Every contribution helps provide critical assistance to women in crisis.
