Byron Community Centre Launches Byron Seniors Club

Revitalising community spirit and enhancing the lives of seniors through connection, creativity and wellness.

The Byron Community Centre is thrilled to unveil the Byron Seniors Club, which will officially launch in late January 2025. Membership is free for local seniors and registration is now open.

This initiative aims to provide a vibrant and inclusive space for seniors in the Byron Shire. It offers a variety of activities and special events designed to enrich lives through connection and wellbeing.

The Byron Seniors Club will feature a diverse range of regular activities throughout the year. Kicking things off in January, the Byron Seniors Club will host Elder Beats Drumming, a series of free, fortnightly group drumming sessions. Discover the joy and creative energy of group drumming every second Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Byron Theatre, 69 Jonson Street. Bookings essential.

Coming up in February, get ready to sway to the rhythm of aloha. Byron Seniors Club invites you to a special taster session of Hawaiian Hula Dance, led by the vibrant Byron Bay Hula/Mana Aloha Troupe. Enjoy a short performance and try it yourself in an interactive workshop.

Later in the year, the Byron Seniors Club will offer an eight-week term of free African Dance, providing an opportunity to explore this energetic art form's vibrant rhythms and movements. More details will be announced closer to the time.

In addition to these regular free activities, the Byron Seniors Club will offer special events, social activities and exclusive Byron Theatre discounts for club members throughout the year. A monthly newsletter to Byron Seniors Club members will keep our seniors informed.

Shanti Des Fours, Byron Seniors Club Coordinator, expressed her excitement:

“We are thrilled to introduce the Byron Seniors Club with a range of offerings that cater to the diverse interests and needs of our seniors community. There's something for everyone, from creative expression to physical wellness and social connection.”

She added:

“Our monthly newsletters and year-round activities are designed to keep our seniors informed and involved, ensuring they have access to enriching opportunities that support their wellbeing and foster a sense of belonging.”

The Byron Community Centre building has been a cornerstone of community engagement for 130 years, continually evolving to meet the needs of Byron Shire residents of all ages. The launch of the Byron Seniors Club underscores the community centre's commitment to fostering a supportive environment where seniors can thrive.

Alongside the launch of the Byron Seniors Club, the Byron Community Centre sponsors a range of weekly seniors activities at the Byron Community Cabin, including Chair Yoga and Studio 55 Drama classes.
