Byron Theatre Ignites Summer with Star-Studded Performances and Unforgettable Experiences

As the summer shines on Byron Bay, the cultural heart of the community, Byron Theatre, is preparing an exciting lineup that promises to entertain, inspire and provoke thought. This year’s Byron Summer of Theatre offers an eclectic blend of theatre, music and comedy bringing together some of Australia’s most celebrated talents.

The season begins with Into the Woods, from November 22 to 30 (2024). Produced by the Bangalow Theatre Company, this Stephen Sondheim masterpiece interweaves beloved fairytale characters into a story that explores the consequences of wishes and quests. With matinee and evening performances throughout the week, audiences will be captivated by its humour, complexity and musical brilliance.

On December 15 (2024) Jim Moginie, the guitarist from Midnight Oil, takes the stage for the launch of his latest album, Everything’s Gonna Be Fine. This intimate performance, focused on piano-driven storytelling, offers fans a chance to connect with Moginie’s new material in a close, reflective setting.

Comedy lovers are in for a treat on January 11 (2025) with Akmal's new show, Red Flags. Known for his sharp wit and humorous social commentary, Akmal will perform two back-to-back shows in what promises to be a night of laughter and irreverence.

The musical journey continues with The Necks on January 24 (2025). This renowned trio, famous for their genre-blending improvisational soundscapes, will take audiences on an immersive musical adventure, offering a concert experience like no other.

Kicking off 2025, the Byron Speakeasy will see the theatre set up in jazz club mode and feature the soulful vocals of Abby Dobson from Leonardo’s Bride, roots music icon Jeff Lang, Prinnie Stevens, special guests, and much more. In an intimate and atmospheric setting, these performances promise to be standout nights filled with heartfelt music and memorable moments from January 4th to 10th.

Reflecting on the upcoming events, Theatre Manager Jon Howell shared:
