Byron Theatre will host five incredible gigs including Ash Grunwald and Hat Fitz & Cara as part of Great Southern Nights, in November (Australian Music Month).

Great Southern Nights is a new project to kick-start the recovery of the live music industry - featuring 1,000 COVID-safe gigs across Sydney and regional NSW, throughout November.

As a key venue on the music touring circuit, Byron Theatre will be host to a fabulous series of gigs from 6 – 29 November. Featuring the best of folk to blues, classical to country and everything in between, the series of concerts will reconnect Australian artists with music fans and bring entertainment back to the community.

“We are thrilled to be hosting five incredible shows as part of the Great Southern Nights program. It is so exciting to have live music at the theatre again. With our new technical set up and a 50% seating capacity, we hope these shows will be the start of a great summer season of live events,” said Byron Theatre Venue Manager, Tanja Greulich.

Acts including award-winning songsmith Ash Grunwald, folk and blues duo Hat Fitz & Cara and chart-topping teenage sibling trio The Buckleys feature on the bill. Classical fans are in for a treat with a special Classic Steinway Concert with accomplished performers Margaret Curtis (piano and harp), Bodhi Scott-Jones (trumpet) and Francis Atkins (piano).

“We tried to keep a very local feel to our shows; alongside some of the big name shows such as Ash Grunwald and Hat Fitz & Cara, we are also showcasing some fantastic young talent in the Steinway Concert. The Buckleys are a three-piece sibling band from Byron Bay and are really hitting the big time with their new debut album launch Daydream,” said Tanja.

Alongside these amazing live shows that celebrate the true breadth and depth of great Australian music, the Byron Theatre will showcase a lineup of Byron’s best performers and buskers as they finally get the opportunity to perform live again to audiences.

“For the Performers & Buskers of Byron show, we really wanted to highlight and showcase some of the local artists that usually make our streets come alive with music, but who have been unable to play due to Covid restrictions. It will be great to see them centre stage in front of a live audience again. The final lineup will be announced shortly. Audiences will be in for quite a treat!” said Tanya.

Great Southern Nights is a NSW Government initiative, delivered by Destination NSW in partnership with ARIA. Find out more at Great Southern Nights.

Great Southern Nights

Great Southern Nights is a music event which will bring 1,000 COVID-safe performances to live music venues in Greater Sydney and regional NSW in November (Australian Music Month).

This event is a NSW Government initiative, delivered by its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) to stimulate the revival of the live music and entertainment sectors and in turn the visitor economy in the recovery phase of COVID-19.

Venues will present 1,000 gigs showcasing established, emerging and local Australian artists, across a multitude of venues around NSW. Great Southern Nights will culminate in Australia’s premier music industry event, the ARIA Awards.

All music events will be programmed in line with current NSW Government health advice regarding physical distancing and venue capacity of public gatherings.
