From Pages to Stages: Early Bird Tickets and First Authors Revealed for Byron Writers Festival 2025

As the 2025 Byron Writers Festival draws nearer, Early Bird tickets are now on sale for the festival, taking place from 8–10 August 2025 at the beautiful Bangalow Showground. If you’ve been dreaming of a weekend filled with inspiring author talks, thought-provoking discussions and a vibrant literary community, now’s the time to grab your tickets at a discounted price - available until 9 April 2025.

But that’s not all. We’re thrilled to share the first nine authors who will be joining the festival. These incredibly talented writers will bring their unique stories, experiences and insights to the stage, offering a weekend full of literary magic.

Meet the First Nine Authors

  • Esther Freud: Known for her evocative novels, including Hideous Kinky and My Sister and Other Lovers, Esther’s work has captivated readers worldwide. Her new book, My Sister and Other Lovers, is set for release in 2025, and we’re excited to hear from her at the festival.

  • Helen Garner: One of Australia’s most beloved and respected authors, Helen Garner’s work spans novels, non-fiction, and screenplays. Her books, including Joe Cinque’s Consolation and This House of Grief, have earned her numerous accolades. Helen’s appearance at the festival will be a real highlight for literature lovers.

  • Hannah Kent: The author of the international bestseller Burial Rites, Hannah Kent is known for her immersive storytelling. Her recent novel Devotion has received widespread acclaim, and we’re excited to hear her share insights into her writing journey.

  • Markus Zusak: Best known for The Book Thief, Markus Zusak’s work has touched millions of readers worldwide. He’ll be joining us to discuss his new memoir, Three Wild Dogs, offering a candid look at his personal life and career.

  • Gina Chick: Known for her role as a winner on Alone Australia, Gina Chick’s memoir We Are the Stars is an inspiring story of survival and self-discovery. Her journey of resilience and vulnerability will surely resonate with many at the festival.

  • Nardi Simpson: A Yuwaalaraay storyteller, Nardi Simpson’s debut novel Song of the Crocodile won the Black&Write! Fellowship and the ALS Gold Medal. Nardi’s work is deeply rooted in her Indigenous heritage, and her voice is one we’re eager to hear at the festival.

  • Michelle de Kretser: Michelle’s novel Theory & Practice explores themes of displacement and identity, and she’s one of the most respected voices in contemporary Australian fiction. We’re thrilled to have her join us for a session at the festival.

  • Joe Aston: Known for his fearless commentary on business and politics, Joe Aston is one of Australia’s most influential journalists. His writing has sparked important national conversations, and his insights at the festival will be thought-provoking, to say the least.

  • Thomas Mayo: An advocate for human rights, Thomas Mayo’s work, including Finding the Heart of The Nation, explores Australia’s history and future. Thomas will be sharing his powerful perspective on social justice and Indigenous rights at the festival.
