Be Kind: Fletcher Street Cottage Launches Christmas Appeal
This Christmas season, as we come together to celebrate, many in the Byron Shire are facing challenges beyond what most of us can imagine. Fletcher Street Cottage invites the community to join their ‘Be Kind’ Christmas Appeal, aimed at raising essential funds to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, domestic violence and financial hardship. This holiday, a gift of kindness can bring hope and practical support to those doing it tough.
“Christmas is a poignant time for many in our community, especially for those feeling isolated or struggling with significant challenges,” says Damian Farrell, Manager at Fletcher Street Cottage. “Every donation is an act of kindness that enables us to provide essential services – from basic needs to emergency relief – making a real difference during what can be an especially difficult season.”
New this year, the ‘Be Kind’ Christmas Appeal features The Giving Guide - a thoughtful wishlist of 12 practical items that can directly improve the lives of those experiencing homelessness and hardship. From tents and sleeping bags to water bottles and first aid kits, these gifts provide dignity, care and support to individuals facing significant challenges.
Fletcher Street Cottage provides critical services to Byron’s most vulnerable, providing wraparound support and a safe space for connection. Community Support Workers offer advocacy and referrals, and 15 specialist services provide medical care, legal aid, counselling, and more. These resources are invaluable over the holiday season, which can be especially tough for those facing hardship and isolation.
“Every person who walks through our doors has a story,” says Maddi Powell, Assistant Manager and Community Support Worker. “Our goal is to create an environment where people feel respected, supported and seen, whether they’re here for housing assistance, escaping domestic violence or just looking for someone who cares. This Christmas, your donation to Fletcher Street Cottage will show kindness to those who need it most.”
The Fletcher Street Cottage team is committed to providing consistent care and support to those in need and relies on community generosity to maintain these essential services. From providing a warm shower and nourishing meals to offering vital support services, every donation goes directly to making a difference in the lives of people facing life’s toughest challenges.
By donating to the Fletcher Street Cottage Christmas Appeal, you’re giving more than just money. You’re giving hope, comfort and kindness to local families and individuals when they need it most.
