Dancing under the stars to big band Soul’d was a fitting finale for Kaleido’s Mullum Laneways Festival - a celebration  of culture and connection held on Sunday, May 5.

It is estimated that 2,500 people shared some magical moments and unforgettable memories during the four-hour free  event, which saw families enjoying street theatre, communal arts activities, and magnificent musical experiences in the  main street and laneways of Mullumbimby.

Director Steve Drake expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for the festival’s activities, noting that the organisers  received numerous positive comments from the public about the variety of offerings for kids.

The day commenced with a flash mob of Mexican ukulele players, followed by performances on the main stage from  Bunny Racket, The Loveys, and Soul’d. Meanwhile, the Cassettes, Dandyman, and Spaghetti Circus attracted large  crowds to their street performances. Simultaneously, the laneways came alive with the life drawing sensations Hot  Mess, while families elsewhere enjoyed face painting, puppetry, arts activities, and storytelling.

“Mullum Laneways was created by the community for the community, and I couldn’t be prouder of the volunteer team  that pulled this together and the support we received from local sponsors,” said Steve Drake. “We will be exploring  ways to make the next Kaleido event just as interesting and engaging while continuing to celebrate and enrich our  community. Stay tuned.”

Kaleido Mullumbimby is a collective of creative thinkers coming together to showcase our  town’s artists through festivals, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and events.
