Queer Family is thrilled to announce an upcoming exhibition at the Ballina Library on Wednesday, 28th August, in honour of Wear It Purple Day. This exhibition is the cumulation of six months’ work by our Young Queerios, on their project ‘Resourcing Our Youth’. Young Queerios is a youth-led initiative for marginalised Queer youth to collectively celebrate positive Queer identities. The exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible efforts of young people who have come together to create resources, foster friendships, and build a supportive community.
Wear It Purple Day is an annual event that aims to demonstrate to young people who identify as LGBTQIA+ that they have the right to be proud of who they are and that they are valued and supported by their community.
Over the past few months, our vibrant youth have been busy meeting, socialising, and channelling their creativity into a variety of projects. The exhibition will showcase artworks and zines produced by these talented individuals, reflecting their unique perspectives and experiences.
One of our Young Queerios shared, “Being part of this project has been amazing. I’ve made heaps of friends and learned so much about myself.” Another added, “Creating art and zines has given me a voice.”
The public is warmly invited to join us at 5pm for the exhibition opening. Please come dressed in purple to show Rainbow young people that they are celebrated and respected, acknowledging all have the right to be proud of who they are.
Join us to celebrate Wear It Purple Day and support the achievements of our young people. Providing safe spaces, visibility and community connection saves lives.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ingrained Foundation, FRRR, NRCF and to Richmond Tweed Regional Library for their generous support. Their contributions have made this exhibition and the resources it showcases possible.
