This week marks Include a Charity Week from 6 - 12 September, a week every year when charities join together to spread a vital message. That message is that leaving a gift in your will to a charity is a simple yet powerful way to create lasting change.

For the Byron Community Centre, bequests give locals a place to turn to in times of need. Gifts mean that the staff and volunteers can continue to provide essential community services and programs such as seniors activities, support for vulnerable women and assisting the homeless.

“Leaving a positive lasting legacy is important for our family,” says a local donor. “I’ve left a gift in my will to the Byron Community Centre to support those in need. It’s nice to know that after I’m gone, my gift will help care for our community.”

Many people from all walks of life, once they have taken care of their loved ones in their will, are choosing to also leave a gift to charity to make a positive impact.

“Bequests to the Byron Community Centre allow us to continue to help those who need it most with meals, advocacy and counselling,” says Homelessness Projects Manager, Jenny Ryan. “To anyone thinking about leaving a gift in their will, you will touch the lives and hearts of many.”

For local charities such as the Byron Community Centre, gifts in wills are an act of generosity with a lasting legacy that gives back to our community.

“We’ve lived in the Byron hills for over 30 years and care deeply about our community,” adds the donor. “There’s something special about being able to continue to give back through a bequest. It’s fulfilling to know that my gift will help to transform lives.”

No matter how big or small, your gift to charity will make a meaningful difference for those in need.
