Got kids that love books, storytelling and creativity? Byron Writers Festival’s Kids Big Day Out returns with a stellar line-up of authors and performers making for a fun-packed day of entertainment for kids and families.

On Sunday 11 August the Lilly Pilly marquee at Byron Writers Festival transforms into a giant immersive storytelling arena where authors and illustrators take to the stage to inspire and delight. These interactive presentations are extremely popular entertainment for kids and parents alike. This year’s host is the wonderful local children’s author Zanni Louise!

As well as the action onstage, kids can explore the StoryBoard space at The Coolamon where our famous StoryBoard bus and tipi village comes alive with storytime and drop-in creative activities for little ones and aspiring young writers and illustrators.

Jessica Alice, Byron Writers Festival Artistic Director, said:

“We’re delighted to present the much loved Kids Big Day Out at the festival once again to nurture the next generation of storytellers! We can’t wait to welcome little readers and writers to the festival. It promises to be a wonderful, fun-filled day with something for all families to enjoy.”

From Bin Chickens to fearless frogs, find out more about the hilarious characters that light up Kate & Jol Temple’s books and why they have the world’s largest pair of underpants! Learn to sing your heart out in Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) with YouTube star Miss Nicky Says, get scribbling with illustrator Peter Carnavas, celebrate the sun and moon with Bundjalung artist and writer Ella Noah Bancroft, discover the wonders of native Tasmanian critters with Bob Brown and find out what all the fluff is about with bestselling children’s author Matt Stanton and an imaginary giant fluffy bunny with ATTITUDE! ‘Meet the Author’ book signings will follow each author’s stage presentation.

With such a stellar line-up of superstars keeping the kids entertained, you can sit back with a coffee and watch the fun and games unfold. Or tag team the supervision with your partner or friend and enjoy some of the many sessions on offer across the rest of the day’s program.
