For the Byron Community Centre, bequests give locals a place to turn to in times of need. Gifts in wills mean that staff and volunteers can continue to provide vital community services and programs such as seniors activities, support for vulnerable women and assisting the homeless.
“I’ve seen the power of bequests and how it can make a big difference,” says Amy Grenfell. “I chose to leave a gift in my will to the Byron Community Centre because they have managed to achieve a lot with no ongoing government funding, and they need all the help they can get.”
Many people from all walks of life, once they have taken care of their loved ones in their will, are choosing to also leave a gift to charity to make a positive impact.
“Leaving a gift in your will to the Byron Community Centre is a tangible way to support our local community, through a trusted local organisation,” says Louise O’Connell, General Manager. “It is an opportunity to make a donation far greater than one we may be able to make during our lifetime."

“I think it’s really important to give back to your community, that stands for during your lifetime and leaving on in legacy,” adds Amy. “Community connection and support is an important aspect of life and to know that it can live on feels like the right thing to do.”
“Bequests are common, especially in this area,” says Kym Chapman, Solicitor. “Many of the people who come to me want to leave a gift to something local.
People have had enough of the big organisations where they’re not really sure where the money is going. They want to help an organisation that they’ve had some dealings with, or they can see is going to make a real difference in the community.”
